A cascade system (otherwise known as master and slave), are popular for commercial and industrial settings.

They can be designed with as few as two or as many as six boilers which are connected together using a pipes. 

Individual boilers can be turned on or off according to demand which improves efficiency and also provides a back-up should one of the boilers develop a fault.​
